Wells for Zoe

Wells for Zoë is a small Irish humanitarian organization based in Lucan, in west Dublin. Since 2005 Wells for Zoë has provided clean, safe drinking water to villages in the Mzuzu area in the northern region of Malawi in Africa, as well as facilitating food security and village development.

The organisation also has an orphan day care centre for over two hundred children aged between 2 and 6. Wells for Zoë has also built and is supporting two more schools and a traditional birthing centre. Since 2008 DIT business students have been travelling to Malawi to assist Wells for Zoë with several of their projects as part of the BSc in Business and Mangement. Also in 2009-10 students from the Msc in International Business carried out a group consultancy project for Wells for Zoe on fundraising initiatives using social networking.

Plans are underway for DIT social care students to collaborate with the pre-school teachers and children in the day care centre in Malawi in the academic year 2010-11. Also computer science students have been invited to particpate on a new Service Learning and Civic Engagement Module which they can take in their 3rd year and which will allow them develop computer applications for Wells for Zoë and associated organisations in Malawi. You can read more about the Computer Science project in an article in the Irish Times from July 2011 - click here.

If you are interested in getting your students involved in this cross disciplinary project then do contact us and we can arrange to discuss your ideas further.
