The Objectives of the Programme

The Programme has the following objectives:
- To build self-esteem as a route to making positive choices, communicating effectively, forming and maintaining positive relationships, developing team-work skills and acquiring knowledge.
- To support students during the vulnerable transition from Primary to Secondary School.
- To encourage students to identify, understand and take control of their learning on both emotional and practical levels within the school and other environments.
- To help students to make sense of and name their feelings and experiences thus enabling them to cope better. This allows students develop a greater understanding of the psychological importance of adolescence.
- To assist students develop greater insight into their own personalities and relationships within school and family environments.
- To expose students to different learning experiences, including learning experientially, which helps them to be more effective, confident and motivated in their personal learning.
- To work with whole class groups to develop positive group dynamics and positive sense of self.
- To encourage access to Further and Third Level Education in order to enhance their career and life opportunities.
