Dublin Inner City Schools programme

We run a programme of activities and workshops about going to college that students can engage with during their time from 1st to 6th year. These are run both on campus and in school.
The overall aim of the Dublin Inner city schools programme is to increase the number of students from schools in inner city Dublin entering and completing higher education. There are 13 schools involved in this programme and below is a brief outline of some of the activities involved.
In the Junior Cycle (1st – 3rd year) the focus is on building bridges to college. On campus activities include campus tours for schools interested in exploring a particular DIT college. We also sponsor Achievement Awards. Workshops in schools give students the opportunity to explore the links between college and careers and impact of subject choices and levels.
The programme for Senior Cycle students (4th – 6th year) includes a broad range of activities which focus on exploring options. On campus activities include college taster programmes across all DIT Colleges. Some examples include: The culinary arts experience, Take 5 Summer School, Shadowing days, Art Portfolio Preparation Course and college open days. Workshops in schools give students the opportunity to develop an understanding of college life, courses available, subject requirements for college. Access entry routes are explored and assistance is given with application forms.
The preparing for the exams phase of the programme offers a range of academic supports to Leaving Cert students by delivering intensive Easter revision courses and supervised study programmes both of which take place on campus in DIT.
