Student Forum

The Access Service Student Forum was set up for the first time in 2007/08.
The Student Forum seeks representation from Access students in each year of study and from each college in DIT. The aim of the forum is to allow our Access students the opportunity to give feedback to the Access Service regarding the supports and services provided and suggest areas for improvement within the Access Service as a whole.
In addition, members of the forum are invited to organise Access Service social events which include a Christmas party and an end of year social event. Past events have featured a fancy dress party and a foam party which were thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.
The Forum is run by volunteering Access Students who are elected by their peers and represent all DIT Access students. The Forum is headed up by a Chairperson and the committee consists of a Secretary and 5 campus representatives. Meetings are held several times throughout the academic year and feedback from those meetings is sent to the Access office via minutes which are recorded by the Secretary. The enthusiasm of the forum members is the key to its success.
We would like to thank all the members of the student forum for their feedback and ideas put forward to the Access Service.
DIT ACCESS SERVICE STUDENT FORUM ELECTIONS
On Tuesday 12th April we had an exciting election contest for the new Chair of the DIT Access Student Forum. There were 3 contenders for the top spot and all three candidates had submitted their manifesto in advance of the election. Rousing speeches were given by two of the candidates on the night, and a third manifesto was enthusiastically read out by a proxy representative. This resulted in a very close contest. However, David Lloyd who is a 2nd year student in Engineering Kevin Street was elected by a margin of one vote. The role of Secretary will be shared jointly with Louise Doherty who is a 2nd year business student and Orla Cormack who is a 3rd year Science student. Campus Representatives elected were Barbara Olushola for Aungier Street, John O’Connor for Cathal Brugha Street, Stephen Fowler for Bolton Street, Donna Grimes for Mountjoy Square and Simon McLean for Kevin Street.
The Staff of the Access Service wish to extend our congratulations to the new Forum Committee and also give a big thank you to Joseph Kinvi the outgoing Chair person of the Access Student forum. Joseph has given a great deal of his time and energy to the Student Forum and in supporting the Access Service in general and we wish him the very best in his future career. Joseph will be taking up a position with Ernst and Young on graduation.
