Disc Managed Learning Environment (MLE) Pilot
The DISC project is currently working with HP and C2k in delivering a pilot of their Managed Learning Environment (MLE) in four of the DISC schools (two primary and two post-primary). The MLE is a safe and secure online learning environment and is currently in operation in every school in Northern Ireland under the name of Learning Northern Ireland (LNI). It is available to teachers and students anytime anywhere.
ICT is an integral part of work, society, and every day life. The use of ICT is essential for a 21st education service. The MLE provides teachers and students with new ways of communicating, networking, and collaborating to enhance the learning experience.
Using the MLE, learners can discuss ideas or topics with other students and teachers in their schools. It is also possible to collaborate with other schools locally, nationally, or even internationally. The MLE library provides thousands of high quality relevant interactive resources. All content is downloadable and teachers can also upload to the library sharing their expertise with others. Learners can meet with other learners, facilitate discussions, promoting collaboration in problem-solving activities. The MLE also includes the media rich Encarta schools online with over 30,000 articles, 20,000 videos, interactive world atlases, music archives, and more.
The MLE also has other interactive features including discussion boards, videos, and a news desk that publishes news articles daily. Pupils enjoy voting, participating in quizzes, and can submit their own article for online publication.
The four DISC schools taking part in the MLE pilot are:
- Scoil Mhuire 's Iosaf GNS, St Mary's Place , Dorset St , Dublin 1
